I've always been a big admirer of everything Lindsay and Jenny do at Light Grey and recently started traveling with the team and I can’t recommend it enough! Truly amazing experience for anyone interested in art, history, or traveling with other artists from around the world! If you've ever thought you might want to try out their residencies/camps but were unsure, do yourself a favor and apply, you won't regret it!

I've traveled with LGAL twice in the last few years. My first trip with them was to Japan and the second to Iceland and I hold both experiences very dear to me. The work they do in fostering new creative connections with other artists across the globe is amazing and I've never felt more welcomed and inspired by people I'd only just met! They are warm, welcoming, creative and clever - perfect travel companions.-

When I returned home after the trip I dreamed of Iceland almost every day. The feeling was a bit like that, maybe it had all been a dream. I spent a lot of time observing stones, moss, water, small tree branches, live and dead animals, as nature continues to create beautiful, loose, and random things. It made me reflect a lot on how I draw, and on letting go of control. The generosity of everyone in the group in sharing their knowledge and experiences was also unforgettable.

Iceland Residency Program
The trip with Team Ogilt in Iceland was incredibly cathartic and happened at a time where much of my life was balanced on shaky foundations. In both the landscape and our team, I found something solid and profound - unspoken respect and appreciation of the other, from our time in the group, and quiet confidence in the landscape. These things placed me back into my body and showed me a beauty and a worth beyond the structures that I found to be rapidly changing in my existence at home. Each individual in the team brought such a unique personality and perspective to the team, and yet we bonded because of those differences, not in spite of them. The moments of vulnerability and honesty really shone through the most.

Each and every workshop was unique and enlightening in some way or aspect. The most intriguing thing was the similarity of paths and experiences apparently very far, and recurring themes such as the sense of belonging, the need of self-expression and the quest for validation. I'm still finding myself reflecting upon some of the conversations we had there in our living-room.

Iceland Residency Program
I've been with LGAL since I graduated from college, unsure how to move forward as an artist and independent. However, it's through my time with them that I've been able to challenge myself and grow not only as an artist but as a person, blooming in the confidence they give me with every invitation. Participating in nearly every Exhibition since 2016, I've been a long time contributor, starting first with the Isles of Kismet and participating as recently as this next call for art! It's with LGAL, that I've also been able to achieve the life long dreams of seeing the world, finding safe haven in their travel programs, experiencing the rich culture and harmonized intent as I followed along Lindsay's lead through the volcanic beaches of Iceland and through the streets, subways, and temples of Japan. I have made lifelong friends with LGAL, and strangers are quickly made friends, as I find myself among artists with similar hopes, curiosities, and work, and for those who we find ourselves different? I find myself learning and broadening my own understanding. It's through LGAL that I've become the well-traveled and more confident artist that I am today, and it's with great pride that I like to count myself among the LGAL family.

The sights, the food, the thermal pools, the deep dive into nature, it was all amazing. But my favorite bit was coming back each day and unwinding with the new friends I had just experienced all that with. More than anything, I treasure having the time to escape the pressures of work and the daily routine to explore another country with such a wonderful and supportive group of artists.

I’ve had the pleasure of traveling to Norway with LGAL through their Art Camp program. It was truly amazing! Being able to connect with other artists and explore a different culture and landscape was a once in a lifetime experience. Taking that time for introspection has had an effect on my art as well. Since the trip, I’ve noticed it has evolved. I have a new sense of what projects and goals to add to my 5-year plan.

Norway Art Camp Program
Aside from the hiking and sketching around Akureyri, my favorite moments had to be when we all got back to the house and sat around to hear the different presentations everyone had. Not only was it a chance to learn something new, but it often turned into a discussion about our hopes, goals, and insecurities we felt as artists. It was a rare moment where I felt like I was among people that really understood what it's like to put so much pressure on yourself about your work and talent, and it was so freeing to know we were all in the same boat.

I've loved Light Grey Art Lab ever since my very first show with them, years ago now. Their Color Anthology group show inspired me to launch an entire series on color history, and now having traveled to Norway with a group of other artists I can genuinely say this little gallery and the community around it are constantly adding depth and enrichment to my art career.

Norway Creative Residency
I loved everything about the Norway residency, from being surrounded by beautiful mountains and fjords to learning from amazing artists and getting to watch their processes to all of the waffles. Two of my favorite moments were climbing a mountain and helping to row a wooden boat, because my body realized it loved to do something it had never done before. All of the explorations through cities and bogs in the midsummer light, both alone and with new friends, left a huge mark on me.

I've been a follower of LGAL for years, marveling at all the artist-in-residence's pieces from Iceland and beyond, and finally pulled myself together to join them on a trip to England in 2017. It was life-changing to be surrounded by like-minded artists on an amazing trip perfectly curated by Jenny and Lindsay; that trip was such a formative part of my art style now that I constantly refer back to it in my memory vault when I need a little kick of inspiration! I've also participated in their FOODIES show, which was such a fun topic to work on that was so near and dear to me as I was able to share my family's generation-spanning recipe! LGAL really feels like an extended family of artists, and I feel so lucky to be a part of their story as well!

I traveled with LGAL in 2019 on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It was an incredible experience where I made some amazing new friendships. I loved being able to meet art directors, painters, and concept artists and learning about their craft. I'm hoping to travel with them again someday to experience the world and to meet more great artists.

This is my second gallery show with Light Grey Art Lab, and in 2017 I participated in an International Art Camp. I have nothing but kind words for the staff and culture at Light Grey Art Lab, and can only hope that any artist interested in exploring new places will take the opportunity to do so through the travel program. It was a wonderful way to experience a new country through an artistic lens with the support of other creators.
