Meet Liz Parlett, one of the awesome artists featured in the upcoming Cosmos show! A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, and now an artist working out of Northern Virginia, their work focuses on character design and concept art! Be sure to check out Liz’s website, lizparlettdraws.tumblr.com, for more work, and be sure to take a peek at the Chamaeleon piece that’s in the upcoming Cosmos show, opening October 30th!
For the COSMOS Tarot & Oracle Deck, Liz illustrated a piece for the constellation Chamaeleon. In the deck, it represents the Knight Card and is a Fire Element.
Chamaeleon
Adaptability - Adjustment - Camouflage
Chameleon is one of the smallest constellations in the sky. Chameleons have evolved into resourceful, perceptive, and versatile creatures. They are known for their camouflage abilities; they can change color to match a variety of surroundings, including an exceptional array of colors and patterns.
Interestingly, chameleons also rely heavily on vision to survive. Their eyes can rotate independently, allowing them to see 360 degrees at once. Upright, this card references a combination of the chameleon’s keen observational skills with their adaptability. This card is about observing one’s surroundings, watching the actions of others, adjusting one’s stance, and adapting instantly to each new challenge. Adaptability is incredibly important in terms of understanding how to stay safe and how to claim new opportunities. This card does not assume that a person always feels confident in their ability to adapt, nor does it assume the person will be instantly skilled at their new role. The phrase “fake it til' you make it” may be a fitting mantra for the time being.
Reversed, this card indicates a traitor may be hidden in the ranks. A person may be willing to blend in just to gain an advantageous piece of information or lying in wait to catch another in a compromising situation. In another reading, the Chameleon card reversed may also mean that a person is just having a difficult adapting to new situations. Slow adjustments often come with plenty of frustration and insecurity. Though the transition may not be easy, it may provide an opportunity to grow and expand one’s current abilities within the constraints of a new challenge.
