For eons the cosmos have held great significance to countless civilizations who have looked up at the night sky and wondered about their place in the universe. Ancient oracles used the stars to predict events to come, and constellations served as beacons that could guide travelers through uncharted territory. October 30th, Light Grey Art Lab will turn out the lights and look to the skies for the unveiling of COSMOS, the newest group exhibition and printed project.
There are 88 modern constellations in the sky, suspended amongst incredible natural phenomena that shape worlds beyond our own, and for the COSMOS exhibition, Light Grey Art Lab has brought together 100 international artists, each contributing a symbolic depiction of one of the constellations or nearby astral bodies. The project also features the launch of a limited edition COSMOS Tarot & Oracle Deck, published in conjunction with the COSMOS Exhibition. In the spirit of astrology's storied past, this set allows users to use the same clues that ancient oracles pulled from the night sky to determine prophecies and fortune. This boxed-set includes every piece of artwork from the COSMOS Exhibition in 100 gilded-edge cards featuring gold foil overlays of each constellation. Split between 78- card Tarot Deck and a 22-card Oracle Deck, the cards can be used for a variety of divinatory readings using an included 150-page guidebook, all of which is packaged in a rigid board box with gold foil accents.

ORACLES
The Cosmos Oracle Deck includes 22 cards that reflect the influences of our planets and surrounding astral bodies. The subject of each card has significant characteristics whose energy attracts, pulls, absorbs, and sculpts the universe around us. The Oracle cards can be used in tandem with the Cosmos Tarot, offering deeper personal insight and enlightenment in different facets of the present and beyond.
In a reading, oracle cards are used for influence, inspiration, and focus for the meaning of the cards. They encourage the reader to take a closer look at the relationships between the astral bodies and the surrounding space, and that if several oracle cards appear in a reading together, their proximity should be analyzed in addition to their symbolic attributes. These relationships represent our physical and emotional connections to one another, as well as our motivations, internal desires, and communities. The last section of the book offers spreads which one can use to help intuit the meanings of the cards and their placement.

MAJOR ARCANA
The Cosmos Tarot & Oracle Deck depicts imagery filled with ancient myth and symbolism. The 22 Major Arcana cards tell the story of the Fool’s journey through naivety, discovery, structure, burden, loss, the gaining of perspective, understanding potential, and finally, understanding the conscious and the subconscious mind. In the Cosmos Tarot & Oracle Deck, familiar symbols are shared by both the Tarot and the Zodiac, as well as a select few constellations that echo the most essential elements of the human condition. Their stories span one’s hopes and dreams, troubles, worries and the nature of one’s relationships and daily life. The twelve zodiacal figures represent personalities and character traits that we see in our friends, family and acquaintances. The ten additional constellations have been chosen to represent important concepts such as misdirection, stability and the tools of creation among others. In this deck, the zodiac and the ten constellations have been paired carefully to coincide with the concepts that best echo their individual impact and placed in the order they appear in the traditional Tarot’s Major Arcana.

FIRE - WANDS
The Fire Element represents passion, enthusiasm, and inspiration. Individuals with Fire personalities (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) tend to be natural leaders, fierce competitors, visionaries, and intuitive thinkers. Fire personalities are spontaneous and frequently radiate warmth and joy. In a moment of excitement they can jump into a role of action, take authority, or assert aggression. When angered, their passion can quickly turn sour, exerting uncontrollable rage and destruction. Occasionally, one can find new growth, ideas, and beginnings in the wake of these great flames. The Fire Element is tied to the Suit of Wands in traditional Tarot reading. The Fire element is quick, creative, and energetic - it is a suit of frenzy and passion.

WATER - CUPS
The Water Element represents intuition, emotion, sensitivity, and the subconscious. Those with the Water Element as their dominant astrological personality (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) are not only deeply in tune with their own emotions, but can read the emotions and motives of others. Much like currents in a pool, they understand the movement and force behind the wave. This quality can prove useful in social situations, relationships, and friendships, as water types are extremely empathetic and aware of the human condition. They pick up on subtleties, secrets and dreams within those they encounter. But water personalities can also let their emotions pull them down. They can be easily hurt, unforgiving, moody, and irrational. The Water Element is also associated with the Suit of Cups in tarot reading. This suit is about sensations, relationships, family, and contemplation.

AIR - SWORDS
Air represents flexibility, intellect, communication, and rational thought. The Air personalities (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) are concept-driven individuals interested in the influence of one’s actions and the pursual of greater causes. They offer new ideas, perspective, and initiative. These personalities live inside their minds, in an intangible, lofty world full of potential, power, and ideas. Although this personality type can be a great resource to a team, the lofty ideals of air personalities can occasionally seem cold, unfeeling, or without empathy. The Air Element is associated with the Suit of Swords in Tarot which controls decision making, justice, authority, anxiety and responsibility.

EARTH - PENTACLES
Earth represents the passing of time, progress, and maturing of work. Earth personalities (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) are dependable, hard-working, wise, and persistent. This suit is patient and process-oriented and the concept of earning, whether that pertains to wealth or knowledge, is an essential theme. Earth’s influence is tangible, practical, and progressive. In traditional Tarot, the Earth element is represented by the Suit of Pentacles. The suit focuses on balance, growth, development, and the cycles of life, work, and achievement.
