Artist talk with Justin Oaksford 7-8pm
Huldufólk Opening reception 8-10pm
Mark your calendars for our next opening reception and artist talk, May 27th, 2016. Huldufólk or Iceland's hidden people, refers to the elves, fairies, small creatures from Icelandic mythology. These hidden people are responsible for mischief, landmarks, troll dwellings, people-like landscapes, and are found in a plethora of fairytales, books, and secrets ingrained in Icelandic culture.
This very special exhibit, highlights the storytelling, tall tales, and culture of Iceland, told through the eyes of the 20+ artists that participated in the 2015 Light Grey Iceland Residency. These artists from around the world share originals, new illustrations, book projects, and photographs from their experience in this sublime, unique, and eerie landscape.
For the opening, we welcome guest artist and participant, Justin Oaksford. Justin is a concept and visual development artist as well as a freelance illustrator. He received his degree in Entertainment Design from the Art Center College of Design, and since has worked for various studies includes 343 Industries in Seattle, WA. We have had the privilege of working with Justin for several exhibitions as well as traveling together during the Light Grey Art Camp to Bryce Canyon & Zion National Park and the Iceland Residency 2015.
The artist talk will be from 7-8pm at Light Grey Art Lab. This lecture is free and open to the public, seating is limited.
