Solo Exhibition - Sishir Bommakanti
Sishir Bommakanti is a freelance illustrator from Minneapolis. He studied in Florida at Ringling College of Art and Design and currently an MFA candidate at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His works exist on the fringes, exploring the corners of the weird, ancient, paranormal, morbid and everything in-between. His illustration works is a synergy of abstract narrative and experimental media. His clients include Popular Mechanics, Broken Eye Books, Nautilus Magazine, Narratively, This Land Press, Clothesline Gallery, Harvey Milk Festival, Tervis, Ringling College Library Association, Sarasota Chalk Festival, Ringling Underground, UNRB and The Pitch.
This body of work represents both my approach to illustration and the underlying process that binds my practice: activating a composition with a variety of objects in order to produce a mood or narrative. These separate elements have been drawn from a variety of references throughout time and space, all clumped and collaged together to produce some form of narrative apophenia. This ritual was practiced in my sketchbooks as an exercise in drawing and experimentation. Eventually, this approach now defines the foundation of my process in both my illustrative and abstract experimental works.
