World Roulette is a fully-illustrated, art anthology and worldbuilding book featuring curious, sublime, enthralling, and diverse concept art, stories, and worldbuilding pro-tips from 150 international artists. Like any good rip in the time-space fabric, World Roulette serves as a portal to infinite new timelines! Dive into vignettes of lost civilizations, wondrous adventures, and legendary battles nature, the forces of evil, and magic and mayhem. Join us on a journey through the imaginations of 150 professional worldbuilders and get inspired to blip out of reality and into a world of infinite sci-fi/fantasy potential!
World Roulette Book
World Roulette is an A5, hardcover book, with 200+ pages and 150 black and white illustrations that reflect a series of unique worldbuilding attributes (such as different ecology, resources, social influences, and timelines.) The book includes corresponding short stories about each of the illustrated vignettes, as well as an interactive worldbuilding compendium that provides the reader an opportunity to build their own worlds through challenges, pro-tips and tricks, and some of the best creative advice from professional concept artists, background designers, makers in the animation, video games, and illustration industries!
THE CONCEPT
We’ve all seen shows where someone gets a hold of a time machine, stumbles into a portal, or steps into an alternate reality generator, and the main character is tossed into a space, unlike anything they’ve experienced before. Rick and Morty, Bill and Ted, Futurama, Star Trek. . . you get the picture. Alternate realities are a favorite theme of visual art makers and storytellers -- not only does it give us a chance to explore beyond the walls of our homes, but it gives us new dynamics to contemplate. Those sparks of inspiration have been the seeds for many of the comics, animations, games, and shows we love. We wanted to see what we might create if we randomized a world's important assets and came up with a book that shows the incredible diversity of imagination, adventure, and folklore of exciting new worlds (with a little roll of the cosmic dice!)
