Comic Exhibition and Autoptic Art Festival Recap!

Last week, Light Grey had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Autoptic, a biennial two-day festival of independent culture, which happened in downtown Minneapolis! The festival was filled with tons of great artwork from local and national exhibitors, including comics, zines, prints, and everthing in between.

Many of the exhibitors and festival attendees gathered at Light Grey Art Lab for the opening reception and Autoptic kick-off party. It was a two-part exhibition featuring international comic artists, displaying their new works, printed projects, and original drawings. The exhibition was hosted by Autoptic and ChiFouMi and held at Light Grey Art Lab.

Anders Nilsen curated a show titled Nothing Will Ever Be The Same featuring work by Charles Burns, Aidan Koch, Antoine Marchalot, Helge Reumann, and Laura Park. Additionally, there was a small solo exhibition of work by Dominique Goblet called Works on Paper. It was a lively scene as groups of artists and art appreciators met and celebrated with the anticipation of an art-filled weekend ahead. We loved hosting the event and would like to thank every one who stopped by and made the night so special!

We loved every minute of the weekend and meeting all of you! If you missed the chance to stop by our booth at Autoptic, you can always see the latest work at shop.lightgrey.com. You can also see the Comic Exhibition that will be on display through August 20th. Thanks again to all of the awesome exhibitors and supporters of Autoptic, and we look forward to the next event!

Autoptic Recap!

We had a really great time at Autoptic: meeting people, both at our booth and on the convention floor. The Aria building was a gorgeous location, the Autoptic crew and staff were friendly and helpful, and everybody, attendees and guests alike, was energetic and so happy to be there. That energy was definitely contagious!

A view from our table at Autoptic

Between all of us at Light Grey we got to talk to a number of the artists tabling there. I was happy to see past teachers Barbara Schulz, Zak Sally, Vincent Stall, and James O'Brien.
We also met so many talented people that I've only known through their work. I'm certainly forgetting people (I don't mean to!), but Bart King, Sam Sharpe, Kevin Cannon, JP Coovert, the folks at Sparkplug Books, and Grimalkin Press are few of the people who gave us convention advice and talked with us about the ups and downs of book production.

And of course we're always happy to see artists who have exhibited with us, including Brad McGinty, Anna Bongiovanni, Erik Krenz, and Evan Palmer.

Fun was had by all!

One of these days (soon!) I'll post my Autoptic purchases–my highly cherished collection of zines, books and prints. And thank you and congratulations, Autoptic crew, for putting on such a great event! Here's to many more!

Autoptic Comics, Music, and Art Festival

We're excited to say we'll be attending Autoptic, a Minneapolis-based comics, music, and art festival this Sunday, August 18th! Aside from the fact that we get to hang out with some of our favorite local artists, we're looking forward to meeting new artists! Nothing like a convention for high-energy socializing! Needless to say we will all be drinking caffeinated beverages.

Our table will include books–including the brand-new, fresh-off-the-press In Place: Wish You Were Here. We're also going to be carrying a few Light Grey Tarot decks (maybe if you come at the right time you can get a three-card reading from one of our in-house tarot-reading pros. No promises, though.) And of course, lots and lots of beautiful art prints.
lightgreyautoptic_1 We're conveniently located at TABLE NUMBER ONE, right by the front entrace. First thing you see when you walk in the door. We will be drinking a lot of caffeinated beverages.

Autoptic runs from 11am to 7pm at the Aria building in downtown Minneapolis. Discover more about who's attending the festival on the Autoptic website, or the the Facebook page!
