Meet COSMOS Artist, Cari Corene

Meet Cari Corene, another awesome artist featured in the upcoming Cosmos show! Cari is an illustrator currently living in Baltimore, MD who loves watercolor painting!  To see more of Cari’s work take a look at her website (caricorene.com) and blog (storyofthedoor.tumblr.com) and be sure to come out and see the Hydra piece that she made for the upcoming Cosmos exhibition, opening October 30th!

For the COSMOS Tarot & Oracle Deck, Cari illustrated a piece for the constellation Hydra. In the deck, it represents the Seven Card, and is a Fire Element.

Hydra

Persevering Against Incredible Odds - Survival

The Hydra is a near-indomitable foe from Greek mythology. This immense serpent had such hopelessly poisonous breath, and blood so virulent it’s smell alone meant certain death. The creature’s most notable feature was its many vicious heads that would double each time one was lost. This vile enemy represents the presence of overwhelming odds and incredibly destructive forces. At the end of Hydra’s story, Hercules managed overcome the beast, proving that even the most daunting tasks can be overcome with strength and perseverance.

In a reading, this card is about persevering against incredible odds. It’s all about surviving, not necessarily about winning, and certainly not about conquering. If one manages to be standing at the end of the battle, they have succeeded.

Reversed, this card symbolizes poisonous circumstances, powerful enemies, and a seemingly endless battle.

Meet COSMOS Artist, Caroline Jamhour

Meet Caroline Jamhour, one of the many talented artists featured in the upcoming Cosmos show! Caroline is a self-taught artist from Curitiba, Brazil. Her favorite themes to work with are fairy tales, fantastic creatures, nature, magic, stars, dreams, mythology and symbolism. To see more of Caroline’s work take a look at her website (carolinejamhour.com) and blog (fadamariposa.tumblr.com) and be sure to come out and see the Cetus piece that she made for the upcoming Cosmos exhibition, opening October 30th!

For the COSMOS Tarot & Oracle Deck, Caroline illustrated a piece for the constellation Cetus. In the deck, it represents the Five Card, and is a Water Element.

Cetus
Underlying Emotional Issue - Self-Doubt - Fear

“Here be monsters.”

Maps from ancient times depict gargantuan sea monsters in the depths of uncharted waters. The concept of large underwater creatures has been around since Mesopotamian times, but in Greek mythology the monster Cetus was one of the most formidable. Cetus was sent by Poseidon to devour Andromeda as retribution against Andromeda’s mother, Cassiopeia.

It is easy to imagine what terrible things might be lurking within dark waters. Those who sail into uncharted territory often face the possibility that self-doubt, fear, or failure may surface along the journey, in addition to the beasts of the deep. It is up to the captain of the ship to rally their crew to navigate through rough seas and to prepare them for any potential hardships that may arise. Exploration comes with its fair share of adventure, discovery, and peril.

In a reading, this card may indicate that something terrible is lurking under the surface of a person’s calm exterior. One may be dealing with an underlying emotional issue that may need to surface.

If the card is reversed, it asks that the person probing for answers should be careful. There may be something in the deep worth its scary reputation. If a person does decide to try to fish for answers, they should be prepared for whatever may rise from the depths!
